Every year, at Christmas and New Year time, Mieh w Mieh habitants wait
for those occasions eagerly, for several reasons. The first and most
important is the family reunion, where all relatives gather with each
others to celebrate the occasions. Most importantly, children are
expecting the presents, and the "boustrayni". Since the morning on New
Year day, children visit their relatives, grandparents, and collect the
boustrayni, being an amount of money.
Similar to previous years, for the
Christmas occasion, two services were held in Mieh w Mieh church to
celebrate Jesus birth. The first service was held on the eve of
Christmas at 6:00 p.m., and the second on Christmas day, at 10:00 a.m.
In his speech this
year, priest Sassine has raised the problems Lebanon is facing at this
critical period, in the light of the overall black clouds in the region,
and the fact the Christianity is being shrinking, from Iraq, to
Palestine, to Lebanon, asking God to give the Lebanese, and especially
Christians, the strength to continue living in this area of the world,
with their Muslims brothers.
